Typhoon Policy
Thank you very much for choosing Hotel Nishie.
Please be advised that when a typhoon approaches and the "Ferry Iheya" evacuates to Unten Port (Okinawa Main Island), we are unable to ensure the safety of our guests. Therefore, we must decline all guest accommodations and temporarily close the hotel during this period.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to guests who have already made reservations. We kindly ask for your understanding regarding this necessary safety measure, which is a unique challenge of traveling to a remote island.
🚫 Reasons for Refusing Accommodations (Expected Risks on the Island)
During a typhoon, the suspension of ferry services and severe weather make it extremely difficult to maintain daily life infrastructure and ensure a safe stay. The following situations are highly anticipated:
-
Shortage of Food and Daily Supplies (Ferry Suspension)
The ferry is the only means of transporting goods to the island. When it is suspended, no supplies can enter, causing grocery stores and shops to quickly run out of food and essential daily items.
-
Potential for Prolonged Power Outages
There is a high possibility of power outages lasting several days. In the past, we experienced a one-week blackout during which air conditioning was unavailable, only cold water was accessible, and communication devices could not be charged. If a power outage occurs, we have no choice but to wait for the power company to restore service after the storm passes.
-
Water Outages
The supply of essential running water (for drinking, showers, and toilets) may be cut off.
-
Communication Failures
Phone lines and internet connections may become unavailable, making it difficult or impossible to contact anyone outside the island.
-
Full Building Closure due to Severe Weather
To ensure physical safety, the entire hotel building may be locked down and sealed off from the storm.
-
Closure of Local Restaurants
Almost all restaurants and dining options on the island will be closed, making it nearly impossible to find food outside the hotel.
-
Ensuring Staff Safety
During severe gales and storms, we prioritize the safety of our team members. This may limit our ability to staff the hotel or provide standard customer service.
💰 Cancellation Policy
In the event of a typhoon (such as ferry cancellations), no cancellation fees will be charged.
⚠️ 【Important Request】
While there is no fee, please be sure to contact the hotel to notify us of your cancellation so that we can accurately assess the situation.
This decision has been made with the utmost consideration for your life and safety. We deeply appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
Please stay safe and prioritize your well-being during typhoon conditions.
